Palais abbatial de Bourgueil

"Beatifully decorated room with a very comfortable bed in a historic building. Lovely continental breakfast. Fabienne was a great host. We had the opportunity to explore the abbey and extensive grounds in relative solitude."

"Our accomodation was tricky to locate; basically you have to enter the abbey as if you were visiting. This place is stunning architecturally and historically but would not be suitable accomodation for everyone because the abbey and its surroundings are undergoing renovation; although the accomodation is beautiful, other parts are a work in progress and externally the accomodation is relatively unlit in the evening so returning after a meal in the village requires a bit of care."

"What an exceptional establishment to stay in. An Abbot's Palace ffs. With a considerate and informative hostess. Also access to the garden and it's environs. Not 'conventionally' luxurious but everything that's required. Breakfast and coffee outside in the courtyard (large - remember this is an Abbot's Palace we're talking about here) just adds to the uniqueness. Then a tour around the accessable 14th century enormous chapel, with surreal animalistic/religious artwork. Truly accessable as the rooms were last occupied by retired nuns. Ramps on pretty much every threshold. And on-site produced Close de l'Abbaye Organic wine available in the office. Our stay was truly Heaven on Earth."
